Zong books 34.1% subscriber growth for 2012

China Mobile Pakistan (CMPak), which operates under the Zong brand name, ended 2012 with around 19 million subscribers, recording annual subscriber growth of 34.1%, the News Tribe reports, citing Zong’s executive director Usman Ishaq. Ishaq added that the company’s plans for continued growth in 2013 included improving coverage and network performance and rolling out new services, such as the ‘Timepey’ mobile money service introduced in December 2012. As part of its infrastructure development plans, the cellco has begun trialling alternative power sources for its cell sites, and to date has installed solar power generators at more than 400 base stations and biogas at a further 70 sites.
