DTAC earmarks USD818m for 3G in three years

21 Dec 2012

Thailand’s second largest cellco by subscribers, Digital Total Access Communication (DTAC), has announced that it will launch a new 3G network by mid-2013, under a three-year investment budget of THB25 billion (USD818 million), following the official award of 2100MHz licences earlier this month to DTAC and rivals AIS and True. DTAC, which currently provides 850MHz 3G services under a revenue-sharing build-transfer-operate (BTO) concession, expects to migrate half of its customer base to 3G within the first year of the 2100MHz launch under its full network operating licence, and predicts that all its customers will be using 3G or 4G networks in four years time.
