Softbank signs Thuraya satellite deal

The Japanese cellular operator Softbank Mobile has signed an agreement with satellite communications operator Thuraya which will see satellite-based services being offered to its business and corporate customers. The cellco will be selling Thuraya handsets and packages from February next year, giving access to users in remote areas and inland coastal waters, as well as providing a back-up link in case of natural disaster.
