Kyivstar serves 8.8m mobile internet customers

4 Dec 2012

Ukraine’s largest cellco Kyivstar, part of the Vimpelcom group, has reported that its number of mobile internet subscribers reached more than 8.8 million at the end of September 2012, representing 35% of its total cellular customer base of 25.2 million at that date. The figure was up from 7.36 million mobile internet users reported by the cellco at the end of 2011, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, which adds that the total includes handset and USB modem subscribers, the majority using Kyivstar’s EDGE services but a significant number subscribing to its resold 3G service operating over Ukrtelecom’s network. In July-September 2012 Kyivstar’s mobile internet customers used more than one petabyte of traffic, while quarterly earnings from mobile internet services exceeded UAH216 million (USD26 million). In full-year 2011 GlobalComms says the company’s mobile internet subscribers used 3.3 petabytes of data, up by 42% year-on-year. More than one million users in the third quarter of 2012 connected to the web via an offer of unlimited mobile internet for UAH1 a day.
