PTA continues banning spree

21 Nov 2012

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued a ban on the sale of all private SIMs in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, reports Dawn Pakistan. The move was prompted by the Interior Ministry and follows the prohibitions of mobile number portability (MNP) and the sale of SIMs from storefronts, as well as several temporary closures of cellular networks, all over security issues. The crackdown in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was motivated by prevalent use of illegal SIMs in terrorist activities in the region, which shares borders with Afghanistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
