Telekom Slovenije has selected Ericsson to supply 2G, 3G and 4G radio access networks and an evolved packet core network for 4G, designed to provide support across all network technologies. The contract, which was in response to Slovenia’s data traffic growth and increasing mobile broadband coverage demand, also includes new functionality for the operator’s existing Ericsson IMS core network to enable launch of voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE). The rollout will start at the end of November 2012. Under the contract, as sole supplier for the mobile network Ericsson will install, deploy and support multi-standard radio base stations (Ericsson RBS 6000 Family), evolved packet core (EPC), Ericsson User Data Consolidation and VoLTE features. The new investment aims to provide greater capacity in the network both for the Slovenian population and for machine-to-machine (M2M) development. Ericsson has been the sole supplier of mobile equipment to Telekom Slovenije since 1991.
