TeliaSonera Finland extends LTE to Porvoo

15 Nov 2012

Finnish mobile network operator TeliaSonera Finland has announced that it has extended its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to the municipality of Porvoo on the southern coast of the country. The 4G service, the cellco noted, is ‘widely available’ in all ‘built-up’ areas of the region, and with the expansion it means that TeliaSonera Finland’s LTE network is now available in almost 50 locations.

In making the coverage announcement, the cellco also noted that its Dual Carrier HSPA+ footprint now stands at around 160 locations around the country, with the network offering a theoretical maximum speed of 42Mbps.

As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, having soft-launched a pre-commercial LTE network in the Turku municipality’s centre in June 2010, commercial 4G services were unveiled on 30 November 2010 in Turku and Helsinki using the 2.6GHz band.
