Croatian telecoms regulator HAKOM has awarded 4G mobile frequency licences in the digital dividend 791MHz-821MHz/832MHz-862MHz band to T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT) and VIPnet, which were the only respondents to a public call for a maximum of three twelve-year nationwide concessions costing HRK150 million (USD26 million) each. The two Croatian cellcos are expected to use the 800MHz technology-neutral frequencies to expand their existing 1800MHz 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks, which they both launched in March 2012. The country’s third 2G/3G operator Tele2 did not register an application for the digital dividend spectrum, which leaves one 2×10MHz allocation spare.
