Telefonica upgrades SAm-1 cable

19 Sep 2012

Telefonica International Wholesale Services, the international infrastructure arm of Spain’s Telefonica Group, has announced that it has upgraded its South America-1 (SAm-1) cable with Infinera’s DTN-X platform. The upgraded cable – which connects the US with Central and South America with landing stations in Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and Guatemala – will enable Telefonica to address growing bandwidth demands from customers and businesses in Latin America.

Inferna said in a statement that the DTN-X platfrom: ‘enables Telefonica to deploy 500Gbps long-haul FlexCoherent super-channels integrated with 5Tbps of Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching per bay…By deploying FlexCoherent super-channels, Telefonica can scale network capacity without scaling operations.’
