Ghana gets new rural wireless networks

12 Sep 2012

Wireless network solutions provider Altobridge has announced the completion of the first phase of a project to provide mobile voice and broadband services to rural areas of Ghana. The solar-powered satellite-backhauled network is being operated by domestic cellular operator Tigo Ghana. The project has been funded by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), an implementing agency of the Ministry of Communications set up by the government to facilitate the provision of access to internet connectivity and communications infrastructure to under-served and unserved areas of the country.
