Please sir, can I have some more? PTA goes begging for more cash

16 Aug 2012

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not been allocated funds to cover the long-delayed sale of 3G licences, according to Pro Pakistan. The watchdog, which has planned a large, international advertising drive to drum up interest in the auction, failed to have its 3G expenses approved in the 2012-2013 budget. Money for the sale was handed over to the PTA in the 2011-2012 budget, but the prolonged delay of the auction has seen the money exhausted without any progress. The PTA chairman is currently appealing to have additional funds allocated to cover the auction costs. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Pakistan has been looking to auction 3G concessions since 2005.
