Omantel’s sales climb 5% in first half

9 Aug 2012

Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) has posted an 11.8% year-on-year rise in net profits to OMR61.2 million (USD158.5 million) for the first six months of 2012, on revenues that climbed by 5% to OMR234.5 million. The improvement was driven by a 7.4% increase in mobile revenues in January-June 2012, which was significantly boosted by the 63% growth achieved in its mobile broadband subscriber base, reports the Times of Oman. Omantel’s total domestic subscriber base witnessed growth of 12.6% year-on-year to reach 2.769 million customers (excluding users of mobile service resellers) at 30 June 2012. Including the company’s Pakistani subsidiary, fixed-wireless telco Worldcall (which also has a division in Sri Lanka), the group’s consolidated subscribers increased by 10.7% to 3.707 million at mid-2012, compared to 3.348 million twelve months earlier.
