Liberty Global’s Irish unit UPC reports strong subs growth in Q2

UPC Ireland, the cable services provider owned by US-based Liberty Global Inc, said the total number of people signed up to one of its TV, broadband or voice telephony services reached 945,200 at the end of June, up 14% or 115,400 compared to the same time a year earlier. The firm’s CFO Carol Gerran commented: ‘Through our fibre-powered network, we’re constantly driving new developments for our customers with speed increases in our superfast broadband and the launch of UPC On Demand TV.’ The cableco’s on-demand service offers a one-week catch-up service, including RTE Player and 3player content and more than 1,300 hours of box sets and series for ‘free’.

UPC Ireland closed out Jun 2012 with a total of 283,400 broadband subscribers, up 25% year-on-year, 205,800 IP voice telephony users (+69%) and 333,200 TV customers.
