TarinNet completes first phase of WiMAX deployment

26 Jul 2012

TarinNet, a telecoms operator based in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan (also known as Kurdistan Region), has seen the first phase of its in-deployment WiMAX network constructed by local firm KITS Telecom Company. The news has been revealed by Canadian equipment vendor EION Wireless, which supplied the Iraqi company with Star4G 16e Mobile WiMAX base stations, AAA and ASN Express Gateway Servers and fixed and mobile end-user customer premises equipment (CPE) devices. KITS Telecom will reportedly oversee the three remaining phases of deployment, due to be completed by the end of 2012. Mohammad Kamaki, CEO of KITS Telecom, commented: ‘EION’s Star4G platform is ideal for large service providers such as TarinNet that are starting to build out and launch 16e mobile WiMAX networks targeting residential and business users with data, voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) and video-on-demand (VoD) services [as well as] video surveillance-over-WiMAX services for security-oriented projects across Northern Iraq’. Dale Squires, president of EION Wireless, added: ‘I am pleased that TarinNet is also installing EION’s StarPlus 300Mbps high speed backhaul solution for its Star4G deployment in Iraq’.
