T-Mobile strides ahead: expands LTE footprint again

23 Jul 2012

T-Mobile’s Hungarian mobile subsidiary has issued a press release confirming that it has expanded its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage to Gyor and the settlement of Gyorujbarat. The cellco says the new ultra high speed network provides a signal to 88% of the population (outdoor coverage) and 61% (indoors). Customers in the two regions wishing to use 4G can sign up to T-Mobile’s Net&Roll 4G mobile internet package, which is based on 4G USB modems or Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE tablets.

As reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, earlier this month T-Mobile Hungary extended its LTE coverage to the areas of Kecskemet and Szombathely, making the advanced mobile service available in ‘most areas’ of the two new regions. Specifically, T-Mobile says the LTE network will provide 98% (outdoor) population coverage and 76% (indoor) in Kecskemet, while in Szombathely the metrics are 98% and 69%, respectively. T-Mobile was the first Hungarian cellco to dip its toe in the 4G LTE market, when it switched on its service in Budapest on 1 January this year. As it stands, the cellco’s 4G network in the capital provides outdoor population coverage of 98%, while indoor coverage is 73%.
