Colt confirms launch of low latency Dublin-London network route

29 Jun 2012

Corporate telecoms provider Colt has announced that its new network route linking Dublin and London is fully operational, allowing its enterprise customers to take advantage of ultra-high speed, low latency data transmission rates between Ireland and mainland Europe, via London. European information delivery platform provider Colt claims its new network route will offer ‘unrivalled’ high bandwidth data and backbone solutions, which will be of particular benefit to the Republic’s financial and ICT sectors. The link claims to support high resilience connectivity of up to 10Gbps with latency of as low as 4.267ms between Colt nodes in Dublin and London. The company is now looking to roll out an extension link to Cork – Ireland’s second largest city – later this year.

Commenting on the launch, Colt Ireland director Gary Keogh said: ‘Our continued investment here will ensure Ireland remains right at the heart of Europe’s network infrastructure and the location of choice for large enterprises across a number of sectors … Colt leads the way by providing the last-mile fibre to over 250 locations in Dublin and acting as a vital gateway to Europe.’

The company reports that a large number of Ireland’s Top 30 ICT and financial firms are Colt customers. It currently carries over 500Gbps of traffic across the Irish Sea. Today’s announcement extends Colt’s total capacity between Dublin and London to 4.8Tbps. The route, which is part of Colt’s wider strategic network investment plan for Europe, incorporates the new Sea Fibre Networks cable, CeltixConnect (the shortest, most diverse sub-sea link between Ireland and the UK) and has an optical layer based on the Infinera DTN platform for seamless integration into Colt’s existing 100Gbps enabled long-distance network.
