Canadian cellco Globalive Wireless (Wind Mobile) has announced details of its network expansion programme, revealing that it will launch in five additional markets in the next quarter, extending coverage to an additional 600,000 Canadians, and bringing total population coverage to over 13.1 million. Wind also said it now boasts over 1,140 active network sites, 225 branded retail locations and over 400 points of distribution across 16 key markets throughout Canada, whilst HSPA+ upgrades have been implemented over the past eight months, bringing 21Mbps (theoretical downlink) data coverage to 34% of Wind’s network. The company currently claims 430,000 mobile customers. It added that some network locations including Kitchener and London have been offering customers high speed (HSPA+) data service from inception, and plans to broaden coverage nationally are underway.
