Main One Cable Company has invested a total of USD255 million in the deployment and expansion of its submarine fibre-optic cable which links West Africa to Europe, Nigerian newspaper The Punch cites the company’s CEO Funke Opeke as saying. Since the 7,200km cable was launched in July 2010, the privately-owned company has spent USD15 million on the expansion of its infrastructure, with the aim of helping to bring down the cost of bandwidth and increase accessibility to the internet in Nigeria and neighbouring countries. Opeke said Main One plans to extend its services to other nations, including Burkina Faso and Niger. She added that the firm had signed up close to 200 corporate clients.
