UCC lowers interconnection costs

7 Jun 2012

The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has reduced interconnection rates for cellcos from UGX131 to UGX112 (USD0.052 to USD0.044). According to Biztech Africa, the reduction came into effect from 1 June 2012 and was the result of recommendations from PriceWaterCoopers (PWC) following a six-month study commissioned in November last year. PWC’s suggested level was in fact lower, at UGX98, though UCC communications manager Fred Otunnu said: ‘This whole process was consultative and we are not obliged to go as per the recommendations.’
