3G concessions may be awarded in November

28 May 2012

Pakistani newspaper The Nation reports that 3G licences are unlikely to be awarded until November or December. An auction for the concessions was planned to take place at the end of March, but problems of transparency relating to the selection of an international consultant to advise on the auction process have marred the long-delayed sale. Dr Yasin Malik, the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has informed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology that once the hiring of an international consultant has been completed he will review the tender process, and that the auction may not take place until November.
