Colombus to offer multiscreen services

15 May 2012

Caribbean cableco Columbus Communications has selected Elemental Technologies’ ‘Elemental Live’ platform to provide multiscreen services. The rollout, slated for September, will give Columbus’ customers access to live TV and a video-on-demand (VoD) library via a variety of internet-connected devices, including hybrid set-top boxes, PCS, tablets and smartphones. In the initial deployment, Elemental Live will create adaptive bit rate streams for both Apple Live Streaming and Microsoft Smooth Streaming. Columbus’ cable customers in Jamaica, Trinidad, Curacao and Grenada will initially have access to the new services via PC, iPhone and iPad platforms, though subsequent deployments will support hybrid set-top boxes. Columbus operates throughout the Caribbean and Latin America under the ‘Flow’ moniker.
