UPC Ireland reports 13% rise in subscribers

Irish cable broadband, TV and voice telephony provider UPC Ireland, part of Liberty Global, has reported a strong rise in total subscribers, with nearly one million people now using its services in the Republic. The cableco closed out the first quarter of this year with 922,600 revenue generating customers, up 13% on the corresponding period on 2011, including 272,700 broadband subscribers (up 26%) and 187,200 voice telephony customers (+71%). In what was a particularly strong first-quarter for the operator, UPC Ireland added a net 36,200 new users, out of a total 110,900 sign-ups for the full year. The cableco also reported strong demand for its digital TV products, with 384,900 homes now taking the service.
