T-Mobile latest to unveil LTE services for business users

14 May 2012

T-Mobile’s Dutch mobile subsidiary has launched a 4G service at a number of key locations in the country, Telecompaper reports. The cellco’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) services are being tested by selected business users, under the banner ‘T-Mobile 26’ in Rotterdam, The Hague, Leiden, Gorinchem and Delft. T-Mobile 26 is billed as a data-only plan, exclusive to businesses, and is priced at EUR85 (USD109.8) per month, excluding VAT. T-Mobile 26 is supplied with a Quanta 1KR USB modem, for connection to a laptop or other device and was made available from 11 May.

Earlier this month TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate reported that the Netherlands’ biggest cable operator by subscribers Ziggo had launched a fourth-generation mobile network based on LTE technology for business users in the country, using its spectrum in the 2600MHz band. The cableco’s service is being offered to customers with an ‘Internet Plus’ cable broadband subscription in the cities of Breda, Zwolle and Oss – branded as 4G LTE Mobile Broadband. Soon after the announcement, KPN Mobile The Netherlands joined the party, launching its own LTE service for business users on 11 May. KPN Mobile’s fledgling 4G service is being offered in the regions Utrecht and The Hague.

Dutch telco T-Mobile Netherlands is scaling back its aspirations in the domestic market and will no longer invest in fixed telephony and broadband services, De Telegraaf reportedly quotes its CEO Thomas Berlemann as saying. Going forward, the operator intends to focus its marketing activities on its core mobile business, although Berlemann insists T-Mobile will not sell the fixed line division, T-Mobile Online, rather it will no longer invest in the develop of its networks, products and services.
