WiMAX makes up 50% of Pakistan’s urban broadband connections

WiMAX technology now accounts for approximately 50% of broadband connections in Pakistan’s urban centres, reports Telecom Lead, commenting on the WiMAX Forum South Asia Conference 2012, held in Islamabad. Pakistan currently has four WiMAX providers, Wateen, Wi-Tribe, Mobilink and Qubee, and according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the platform accounts for 28.3% of all broadband connections in Pakistan.

President of the WiMAX Forum, Declan Byrne said: ‘This success of the technology is unparalleled anywhere else in the world.’ Wateen’s CEO, Zaeem Zamindar added that his company held that ‘WiMAX is the solution of choice for emerging countries and can leapfrog Pakistan to progress.’
