The Latvian CDMA cellular operator Triatel has begun a USD4 million network upgrade programme in the Riga area under which it will install EV-DO Rev B2 technology to increase data speeds by up to ten times. Rev B phase 2 technology offers peak download speeds of 14.7Mbps. Triatel is a joint venture between Latvian telecoms companies Telekom Baltija and Radiokoms, providing a full portfolio of services via a CDMA-based network in the 450MHz band which was first rolled out in April 2004. It lies in fourth place in the Latvian wireless market, with around 145,000 subscribers and a 5.5% market share at the end of 2011.
