Bulgarian cellcos have installed 593 illegal base stations

28 Mar 2012

Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development, Lilyana Pavlova, has criticised the country’s mobile operators for deploying almost 600 illegal base stations. Speaking at a presentation regarding the work of Bulgaria’s construction regulatory agency, the Directorate for National Construction Control, Pavlova said: ‘For 593 base stations the Directorate has found that they do not have a construction permit and a permit for use.’ According to a report from Novinite.com, the Minister has ordered cellcos to stop operations via the illegal base stations and to dismantle the antennae until the relevant construction permits have been applied for and awarded. She said that operators failing to comply would face fines and have electricity supplies to the base stations cut by the state-run utility group.
