China Mobile to take part in Pakistan’s 3G auction

14 Mar 2012

China Mobile has reportedly confirmed its interest in participating in Pakistan’s long-delayed 3G spectrum auction. According to China Daily, China Mobile is looking to strengthen its foothold in Pakistan, having restored CMPak (formerly Paktel) from the ‘brink of bankruptcy’ since purchasing the company in 2007. Wang Jianzhou, China Mobile’s chairman added that the company was looking to expand into other markets, but had been held back by high prices: ‘We saw opportunities, but the prices are far too high. That’s why China Mobile has made little progress in overseas expansion in recent years.’
