UPC crosses the RubiCom with Hungarian purchase

12 Mar 2012

Liberty Global’s Hungarian pay-TV, broadband and fixed voice subsidiary UPC Hungary, has been given the green light to acquire the country’s eighth largest cableco RubiCom, BroadbandTVNews reports. The smaller unit currently delivers TV, internet and telephony services to around 63,000 homes in 80 towns and villages. Following the purchase, UPC Hungary intends to offer RubiCom customers with its full range of products, including a DVR option and ‘Fiber Power’ branded broadband at speeds of up to 120Mbps. The improved options will come on-stream in May, it said.

The move to acquire the regional rival will significantly boost UPC Hungary’s subscriber base in the country. At the end of 2011 it counted 427,800 broadband subscribers and 306,000 IP telephony users.
