FT and Vodafone deny 3G rumours

12 Mar 2012

Several foreign telcos, previously tipped as potential bidders for Pakistan’s 3G licences have quashed the rumours, reports the Express Tribune. Representatives from France Telecom and Vodafone responded to correspondence from the paper, refuting speculation over their groups’ interest in Pakistan’s wireless market. Vodafone’s spokesperson said that ‘Pakistan does not form part of our network investment plans.’ France Telecom echoed, saying that ‘France Telecom-Orange has no intention of entering the telecoms market of Pakistan.’ Qatar’s Qtel refused to comment on the rumours, though an anonymous official from its Pakistani subsidiary Wi-Tribe said that Qtel was not interested in the 3G auction.
