PTA pushes 3G auction back

9 Mar 2012

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has postponed the planned tender of 3G licences, though the explanation for the delay is unclear. According to local news source Express Tribune, the PTA was forced to hold off on the auction after failing to receive cabinet approval to bypass competitive bidding rules, though telecoms.com cites ‘great interest shown by operators through their representatives in World Mobile Congress.’ In addition to the long awaited 3G auction, the tender of redundant frequencies formerly used by Instaphone has also been delayed indefinitely.
