Fixed lines decline by 0.5% in Q4 says stats office; local tariffs may rise

According to data released by the Ukrainian Statistics Office, the fourth quarter of 2011 saw a 0.5% decrease in the total number of registered fixed telephony lines in the country, from 10.619 million at the end of September to 10.563 million at 31 December. Meanwhile, as reported by Telecompaper, the Ukrainian telecoms regulator National Commission on Communications Regulation (NCCR) is considering raising local fixed telephony tariffs, in a review which has been initiated by incumbent PSTN operator and dominant wireline services provider Ukrtelecom, ¬according to newspaper Kommentarii.
