TeliaSonera’s EBITDA levels out year-on-year, rises 1% in Q4

2 Feb 2012

Swedish telecoms heavyweight TeliaSonera has released its financial results for the year and fourth quarter ended 31 December 2011. Net annual sales fell 2% to SEK104.35 billion (USD15.40 billion), although fourth-quarter revenues climbed 1% year-on-year to SEK27.12 billion. EBITDA excluding non-recurring items was level at SEK36.91 billion for the full-year, but showed a 2% year-on-year improvement in Q4 2011 to SEK9.19 billion. Net income attributable to shareholders of the parent company fell on both an annual and quarterly basis, by 14% and 6% to SEK18.34 billion and SEK4.97 billion respectively. Milestones flagged up by the group in the fourth quarter included reaching half a million pay-TV customers in Sweden – which TeleGeography notes are 90% based on IPTV, with the remainder served by analogue cable – and Spanish subsidiary Xfera Moviles (Yoigo) passing three million 3G mobile network subscribers while finally reaching positive operating income (EBIT) five years after its launch. Elsewhere, TeliaSonera claims that its subsidiary Ncell became the overall mobile market leader by subscribers in Nepal, while its Azercell unit’s 3G launch in Azerbaijan means that the group now provides 3G services across all markets in its Eurasian division.
