MTN Nigeria, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, has teamed up with Qualcomm to improve the performance of its 3G network, BusinessTech reports. Qualcomm will provide technical and engineering support to help MTN Nigeria benchmark and audit its 3G network to identify potential areas for increased efficiency. An upgrade of its 3G network would enable the wireless operator to provide seamless and reliable voice calling, as well as faster 3G data speeds. ‘As our subscriber base continues to grow, having an efficient and reliable network is essential to providing our customers with a best-in-class mobile experience,’ commented Lynda Saint-Nwafor, CTO of MTN Nigeria, adding: ‘Qualcomm’s comprehensive network services and strong expertise in 3G and 4G technologies make them the ideal partner to help us improve the quality of our network.’ MTN Nigeria had a total of 41.1 million mobile subscribers at the end of September 2011, giving it a market share of 45.4%, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database.
