Ukraine launching first telecoms satellite

30 Jan 2012

Ukraine will launch its first telecoms satellite in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to the head of its space agency, Yury Alexeyev. The USD292 million satellite project, financed with a Canadian loan, would also offer telecoms services for countries across Central Asia and North Africa, the official told reporters, with a pay-off period of seven to eight years. The satellite will be launched from the country’s Baikonur Cosmodrome.
