Airtel Ghana launches HSPA+ service

19 Jan 2012

Ghanaian mobile operator Airtel Ghana has launched a 3.5G HSPA+ service offering maximum download speeds of 21Mbps. In an interview with Citi Business News to announce the launch, Airtel Ghana’s managing director Philip Sowah said that going forward about 300 additional cell sites would be deployed across the country within the next three months to boost the accessibility of mobile broadband internet for its customers. Sowah said that having completed blanket coverage with 2G, and augmenting data services with 3G in select areas, his firm is now looking at ‘increasing our 3G coverage by 50% [by] putting a number of cell sites across the country.’
