XPress licence revoked

12 Jan 2012

Jordan’s telecoms watchdog, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has revoked the licence of digital trunking operator XPress, reports Zawya citing an unnamed government official. XPress ceased operations more than a year ago after the company encountered financial difficulties, though it has recently announced that it is close to concluding a deal with an investor that will allow it to resume offering its services. However, the TRC has said that it will not reconsider its decision to revoke the licence unless XPress provides financial guarantees that it will pay its outstanding debt, thought to be approximately JOD1.6 million (USD2.25 million), should it prove successful in its deal with the unnamed investor.
