NMa raids cellcos’ offices in price-fixing investigation

7 Dec 2011

The Dutch competition authority, Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa), has visited the headquarters of the country’s incumbent mobile operators – KPN Mobile, Vodafone and T-Mobile – amid allegations that they have engaged in cartel price-fixing practices and illegally shared market information. The Financial Times quotes a spokesman for KPN as saying that in particular, the competition watchdog is investigating allegations of ‘concerted practice with regard to mobile telecommunications offerings on the Dutch consumer market’, as well as ‘the division of independent sales channels’. The three cellcos have each released statements confirming that officials from NMa visited their offices on Tuesday, adding that they will all cooperate fully with the agency’s probe.
