Telekom Austria-backed cellco MobilTel (M-Tel) has announced plans to roll out Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in four cities in early 2012. Test services will initially be available to customers of all Bulgarian operators, provided that they have an LTE-enabled device. Sofia, Varna, Ruse and Dobrich will be the first cities in the country to see the 4G platform, though M-Tel plans to gradually increase the number of cities with LTE access throughout 2012, whilst it gathers feedback on the new platform. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of September 2011 M-Tel had approximately 1.1 million 3G subscribers representing 31.1% of the 3G market.
