CAT’s full HSPA launch delayed

15 Nov 2011

Due to Thailand’s widespread flooding, state-run CAT Telecom has delayed plans to launch full commercial packages of 3G services in Bangkok this month over the new W-CDMA/HSPA network rolled out by True Move under a public-private marketing partnership. CAT is already offering a limited service using its new retail ‘My’ brand over the 850MHz network whilst its private sector partner has launched full commercial packages via its True Move H division. The government-owned telco now says a wider launch of My 3G services will take place in provinces outside the Bangkok region by the end of December; CAT had previously set a modest target of 40,000-50,000 My subscribers by year-end. True Move H launched commercial HSPA services in 17 provinces in August, following a soft-launch the previous month, when it claimed 200,000 existing trial users.
