Etisalat Nigeria has announced the commercial launch of its HSPA+ network under the brand ‘easyblaze’, local newspaper Vanguard reports. The new network, which supports maximum download speeds of up to 42Mbps, is initially available in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna, Zaria, Warri, Enugu, Aba, Awka, Nnewi, Onitsha and Benin. A number of pre-paid data plans are available, ranging in price from NGN1,600 (USD9.8) for 200MB of data to NGN8,000 for 6GB of data. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that Etisalat acquired a licence to provide third-generation wireless services in December 2010 through the purchase of startup Alheri Mobile Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of local conglomerate Dangote Group. Alheri was awarded a 3G concession in April 2007, but did not go on to roll out services.
