Velatel expects to pass its 16,000 projection

22 Sep 2011

US-based provider VelaTel has announced that its Peruvian subsidiary GO Movil, previously named Perusat, has 7,000 prospective customers signed up to its ‘interested customer’ list, detailing which plans and products that they are interested in. George Alvarez, CEO of parent VelaTel, formerly ChinaTel, said in a press release that ‘VelaTel expects to well-exceed its previously announced expectations to sign up 16,000 customers for the first full year of operation’. Alvarez went on to suggest that the company expected monthly ARPU to be in the region of USD20, and that there were plans to open new storefronts to accelerate subscriber growth. The telco claims to be signing up around 150 customers a day between its five stores. GO Movil has rolled out a WiMAX wireless broadband network in seven cities, and expects to launch commercial services over the next two weeks, having completed a soft-launch in August this year.
