Datagroup courted by Rostelecom

31 Aug 2011

Russian fixed line operator Rostelecom is looking at the possibility of purchasing Ukrainian telco and ISP Datagroup, which according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database is the country’s fourth largest fixed line service provider by revenue. Russian newspaper reports add that Rostelecom is eyeing a number of potential acquisition targets in the Ukrainian broadband and fixed line segment in line with a current strategy of expanding in CIS countries. GlobalComms says that Datagroup operates a national fibre-optic network linking more than 50 cities, while its number of fixed broadband lines jumped from 23,000 at the end of 2009 to over 100,000 by mid-2011 following a recent shift in focus towards consumer services.
