Dutch mobile internet price increase won’t be investigated

30 Aug 2011

In a letter to parliament yesterday the Dutch economic minister Maxime Verhagn declared that he is aware of recent mobile internet price hikes but sees no reason to investigate them. KPN was the first operator to announce price increases for mobile internet services by cutting data allowances in new contracts. Vodafone and T-Mobile soon followed. The higher prices come at a time when Dutch mobile network operators are struggling to increase sales in the wake of increasing substitution from mobile voice calls or text messaging to services like Skype or Whatsapp.
