Moroccan 3G broadband connections up 9.7% in Q2, mobile users up 4.8%

Mobile subscribers in Morocco increased by 4.8% in the second quarter of 2011 to 35 million, telecoms regulator the ANRT reports, adding that Maroc Telecom’s share of the market stood at 48.6% at end-June, ahead of Meditel with 32.5% and Wana (Inwi) with 18.9%. In the 3G mobile broadband segment, total customer numbers increased by 9.7% in the three months ended 30 June 2011, and 79% year-on-year, to reach 1.82 million (including mobile voice-plus-data packages users), split between Maroc Telecom (44.7%), Inwi (30.8%) and Meditel (24.5%).
