Dutch MVNOs grab more subscribers in Q1

3 Aug 2011

Dutch mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) collectively controlled 6.6 million accounts in the country at the end of March 2011, up 0.4% since the start of the year. A study by Telecompaper claims that the number of virtual-enabled mobile customers reached 32.8% of the total market at that date. Further, the study concludes that the sector is dominated by eleven virtual brands, although it notes that it continues to be ‘highly dynamic’ and that regulations imposed by the national government and the European Union have had an unduly negative impact on independent MVNOs. As at 31 March there were 56 active MVNOs in the Dutch market, of which the leading brands were Hi, Telfort, Lebara and Lycamobile.
