Atlantic Canadian telco Bell Aliant has posted a 1% drop in operating revenue to CAD693 million (USD734 million) in the second quarter, but beating market forecasts, causing it to raise its full-year turnover estimate slightly to CAD2.72 billion-CAD2.78 billion. The triple-play network operator’s results were boosted by improved subscriber take-up of broadband and TV services, helped by the ongoing rollout of fibre access infrastructure. EBITDA fell 2.8% year-on-year to CAD334 million in the three months ended 30 June 2011, as CAPEX spending increased by 23.9% to CAD154 million. Amongst highlights of Aliant’s results, IPTV customers reached 59,000 at the end of June, following net IPTV customer additions of 5,000 in the second quarter. Direct fibre-based ‘FibreOP TV’ customers grew by 6,500 in the quarter (some converting from xDSL-based services) to reach 20,000 at mid-2011. IPTV services generated revenue of CAD10 million in the three-month period.
