6,000 subscribers switch in the first fortnight of MNP for Ghana

Ghana’s National Communication Authority (NCA) has released details on the first two weeks of mobile number portability. Within the first ten days 5,631 people had ported their numbers to another provider and by the twelfth the number had passed 6,000. The average port time was 4 hours 17 minutes, around 36% were completed in under an hour and the fastest was reportedly 1 minute 31 seconds. Less than 1% of the ports took longer than 24 hours, the maximum time frame set by the NCA.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of March 2011 Ghana had 17.7 million wireless subscribers and five providers, MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, Tigo, Expresso and Airtel Ghana.
