Govt green lights mobile frequency auction

7 Jul 2011

TelecomPaper reports that the Hungarian government has adopted a decree to allow unused frequencies in the 900MHz and 1800MHz band to be sold to a new mobile service provider. Citing local daily newspaper Budapest Business Journal, the report adds that the order given permission for the frequencies to be used for 3G (UMTS) or 4G (Long Term Evolution or WiMAX) platforms. The National Development Ministry is believed to be planning to hold an auction in the second half of this year. If no bids are forthcoming from a new entrant, or if the offers are below an acceptable offer, the spectrum could be distributed among the three existing mobile network operators.
