4G Solutions rolls out WiMAX network for 4G Africa

13 May 2011

Solutions and service provider 4G Solutions has completed the first phase of a WiMAX network deployment project for 4G Africa, GoingWiMAX reports. The network design will enable fixed and nomadic wireless connectivity for home and office users, as well as providing mobile services to customers. 4G Solutions was contracted to provide a full end-to-end WiMAX network integration and OSS/BSS infrastructure, while Alvarion was selected as a WiMAX RAN vendor. The first phase of the network provides indoor coverage for USB dongles and desktop modems in major residential and business areas in the city of Douala, while the second phase – scheduled for completion in the summer of 2011 – will provide services in the capital Yaounde. 4G Africa will provide a range of services, including internet access, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and hosting, to both residential and business customers.
