AIS 26% profit rise driven by data usage

10 May 2011

Thailand’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, Advanced Info Service (AIS), has posted a 26.3% year-on-year increase in net profits to THB6.27 billion (USD207 million) for the first quarter of 2011, compared to a restated THB4.96 billion it reported for the corresponding period of last year. The company attributed the improvement in its bottom line largely to growth in its customers’ take-up of non-voice services, as well as costs savings. Total revenues at AIS rose to THB31.15 billion from THB26.99 billion a year earlier; of the total, voice revenue increased by 6.8% to THB17.47 billion while non-voice revenue grew by 25.8% to THB4.51 billion.
